Author Interview & Giveaway: Amber Lea Easton

About the Author:

Amber Lea Easton is a multi-published fiction and nonfiction author. For twenty years, she's worked in the fields of journalism and advertising with a brief detour into the financial industry. Although she holds a BA in Communications & Journalism, she is a perpetual student of life who enjoys taking courses on a wide variety of subjects when time allows. Smart is sexy, according to Easton, which is why she writes about strong female characters who have their flaws and challenges, but who ultimately persevere.

Easton currently lives with her two teenagers in the Colorado Rocky Mountains where she gives thanks daily for the gorgeous view outside her window. She finds inspiration from traveling, the people she meets, nature and life’s twists and turns. At the end of the day, as long as she's writing, she considers herself to be simply "a lucky lady liv'n the dream."

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I let the story flow as it will during the rough draft. I fix any issues in revisions.

Do your characters ever want to take over the story?

My characters drive my stories. They motivate everything from the very beginning. Sometimes my secondary characters want more input, but I manage to keep them under control.

What is your favourite food?

Shrimp, preferably served at a seaside cafe with a warm breeze blowing through my hair as I sip a vodka martini.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Night owl, most definitely.

Where do you dream of travelling to and why?

I dream of tangoing through Argentina. Why? Because it looks sexy and fun. Life is short, why not do something completely out of the ordinary?

Do distant places feature in your books?

Yes, for the most part. In both Kiss Me Slowly and Riptide, my characters are near or on the sea. In my next release, however, I set it here at home in Denver, Colorado.

Do you listen to music while writing?

Always. I put in my headphones and shut out the world.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

Riptide is a story about one woman starting her life over after one violent night shatters everything she’s ever known to be true. She doesn’t trust easily--and that goes for herself, too. In the Cayman Islands, she hopes to distract herself from reality with six weeks of no-strings-uncomplicated sex with sexy screenwriter Noah Reynolds. But he’s more complicated than she knows because he’s dealing with a stalker of his own. Soon Lauren begins wondering what’s real, what’s imagined, what’s merely paranoia from her past...Her resolve not to get too involved dissolves when she recognizes a kindred spirit in Noah. Love crashes up against a revenge plot. Tentative trust battles with betrayal. What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?

That it’s not as glamorous as they portray in the movies.

Is there anything you would do differently?

I’m currently in the process of changing some things but can’t speak about it publicly. I’ll just say to any aspiring authors--know that to you this is art and passion but in reality it’s a business. Always be aware of what’s happening.

Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?

My life experiences and the colorful characters who enter my world from time to time. Sometimes they enhance it, sometimes they make it nutty, but they always make it memorable.

Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?

Don’t rush it. Pay your dues, learn, be open minded, accept feedback, don’t submit before you’re ready, respect your editor. Revise, revise, revise.

What are three words that describe you?

Tenacious, loving, spiritual.

What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?

Nora Roberts, Heather Graham and Jennifer Cruzie are my favorite authors.

List of previous books if any
