Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I used to be more of a planner but nowadays I simply let the story flow.

Do your characters ever want to take over the story?

Often! I find as a general rule of thumb that it’s best to let them do so. After all, it’s their tale to tell.

What is your favourite food?

Oh, I’m definitely a Mac & Cheese girl. Keep it simple. *grins*

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

100% night owl. I don’t function well in the morning.

Where do you dream of travelling to and why?

Hands down, Scotland and Ireland. Not only do I have family there but all my historical research centers around that corner of the globe. Twelve books later and I’ve yet to write of a character or setting not involving Ireland or Scotland, and naturally, England.

Do distant places feature in your books?

All the time! I love traveling and other cultures.

Do you listen to music while writing?

Yes. If I’m writing about my Highlanders I’ve got Pandora tuned into a Celtic/New Age station. If I’m writing one of my paranormal stories I go for something a little more intense.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

To discuss my latest release, Highland Defiance, it’s best to first understand the new series in which they’re featured, The MacLomain Series- Early Years.

This series focuses on all those characters from the original MacLomain Series who never had their love stories told in detail.

Naturally, the first romance, Highland Defiance, focuses on Adlin, shaman of the MacLomain Clan. He has now been in SIX NOVELS! To read about him in his elder years check out Fate's Monolith, Destiny's Denial and Sylvan Mist. To read about him as both a wizard and meddlesome ghost, check out The Victorian Lure, The Georgian Embrace and The Tudor Revival.

But Adlin also fell in love. He was a young man from the medieval Scottish Highlands. Mildred was a beautiful woman who traveled back in time from the 1940's. Mildred, of course, is a character from the original series. Like Adlin, she's old and wise. Within those books it becomes obvious that the two shared a great romance.

In HIGHLAND DEFIANCE, Adlin and Mildred are young and vibrant and as Fate would have it, in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?

I could write pages, perhaps even a book on what I’ve learned over the past six years. But I’ll focus on what I feel most important…to remember why I started writing to begin with, my love for the craft. I think sometimes it’s too easy to get caught up in all the other aspects of this business including promo, reviews, etc.. Develop a thick skin, remain focused and keep a positive attitude. After all, your characters depend on their writers to share them with the world!

Is there anything you would do differently?

Not a thing. Yes there have been bumps along the way but if not for those bumps I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?

This might sound strange but I’ve made it a point to influence my own writing. I used to be such an avid reader until it occurred to me that I was allowing other author’s work to impact my own. So I gave up reading for a long time and really focused on developing my own unique voice. Worked like a charm. *smiles*

Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?

Don’t give into self-doubt. Remember that you are unique and gifted. Create writing goals and see them through no matter what. And again, stay positive!

What are three words that describe you?

Driven, creative and goal-oriented.

What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?

I have so many favorites that it would be difficult to choose just one. If I were to pick a writing style that I always found engaging it would be Lisa Kleypas’s.
