Raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Violetta Rand spent her childhood reading, writing, and playing soccer. After meeting her husband in New England, they moved to Alaska where she studied environmental science and policy before attending graduate school. Violetta then spent nearly a decade working as a scientist, specializing in soil and water contamination and environmental assessments.

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?
I’m pure spontaneity—no planning.
Do your characters ever want to take over the story?
I discover things about my characters as I write, but no one has ever hijacked my story.
What is your favourite food?
Pizza.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Both.
Where do you dream of travelling to and why?
Norway, to explore Viking history and experience Norwegian food and culture.
Do you feature distant places in your books?
Yes, especially England, Norway, and Scotland.
Do you listen to music while writing?
Depends on my mood. I’m a hard rock girl.
Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?
Her Highland Rogue is my Highland debut. I stuck with a traditional storyline this time and enjoyed writing it. The story is about love, self-discovery, and family.
What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?
Patience is definitely a virtue and authors don’t just write, they need to be savvy social media divas.
Is there anything you would do differently?
No. I’ve learned too much the hard way.
Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?
My life experiences in general. Writing is therapeutic and I love sharing my stories.
Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?
Genuine humility, accountability, and respect for your peers will always win the day.

Loyal, witty, and determined.

In Romance? Karen Marie Moning. I adore her Highland stories.
