Author Interview & Giveaway: Dragon in the Blood by Juliette Cross

Juliette lives in lush, moss-laden Louisiana where she lives with her husband, four kids, and black lab, Kona. Multi-published author of paranormal and urban fantasy romance, she loves reading and writing brooding characters, mysterious settings, persevering heroines, and dark, sexy heroes. From the moment she read JANE EYRE as a teenager, she fell in love with the Gothic romance. Even then, she not only longed to read more novels set in Gothic worlds, she wanted to create her own.

Hi, there! Thank you for having me on the blog today. So happy to be here!

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I’m a plotter, for sure. I need a solid outline before I can really get moving into the story. But I don’t outline every single action. I’ll let the characters take me where they want as I get into each scene.

Do your characters ever want to take over the story?

Lol. ALL the time. And they often take me places I’m not prepared for.

Where do you dream of travelling to and why?

My dream is to travel across the UK with my husband. I long to take a vacation across England, Ireland, and Scotland as that’s where my ancestors are from. I want to see centuries’ old churches and castles and the beauty of the countryside there.

Do distant places feature in your books?

Often. It’s interesting because my Morgon world is entirely fantasy. But I still like my characters to travel, which is why in DRAGON IN THE BLOOD we see them venturing into the frozen wastelands of Aria. There’s something about a physical journey to parallel the intellectual or emotional one that I enjoy.

Do you listen to music while writing?

Funny enough, I’m listening to my favorite writing music now—Game of Thrones radio on Pandora. I prefer classical music without lyrics as sometimes the words will interfere with my thoughts.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

This was a fun story to write as it takes place in a frozen wilderness of my own creation, far from the civilized provinces. It’s fast-paced and action-packed with run-ins with outlaws and deadly predators. And the romance is quite sizzling. It’s always fun when you have two MCs trying very hard not to give in to their desires. Inevitably, they do fall. And these two fall hard.

What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?

It is constantly changing. Constantly. The most important thing to do is to keep writing and keep trying. Perseverance is key in this business. Or in any business for that matter.

What are three words that describe you?

Tenacious, stubborn, and optimistic.

What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?

My favorite classic is Charlotte Bronte’s JANE EYRE, which speaks to my dark, romantic sensibilities. My favorite modern romance writer is Nalini Singh as she seems to always weave the sort of passionate tale I enjoy most.

Book Description:

When desire bites, there’s no patience for a slow burn.

While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground.

Valla Moonring, an assassin for the Order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered on a mission into the Wastelands of Aria—a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators.

To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact.

Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—the soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…
